Everyone should have their own file system and routines throughout the day. Some people prefer to keep everything in its proper place. For others, the desk may look messy for days. It’s just a preference. Everyone is different.
I’ve heard lots of people say they are never organized, despite their good intentions…organization is a forever work in progress. Some homeworkers define organization as keeping their home and work lives separate and running smoothly.
Some people are overwhelmed by the repeated efforts to organize their desks, schedule daily tasks, deadlines and filing system. They let their work lives consume them, and sometimes fail to keep up with family devotions and household chores.
Do you feel like you are unable to get organized? Are you overwhelmed with tasks? Do you feel like you never get anything done? Need some time management tips? This is not a common problem. This vicious circle is affecting many people. They are often torn between work and family, which can lead to major conflicts.
Here are 10 useful organizing tips for homeworkers
1. Use a calendar online or on your desk top to stay organized
If you have children or work from home, a calendar is essential in your life. Every day brings new challenges, whether it is your home-based job, household chores or family time. You should make time for family and household chores, and reserve certain days for specific tasks.
2. Set goals
You should set realistic goals for your business (and personal) and work hard to achieve them. Your goal list should be visible where you see it every day.
3. Do not let phone distractions consume you
You can set your voicemail to return calls if you are not in business. Important calls can be returned at the end your workday.
4. Maintain an organized filing system
Get filing cabinets and other filing systems for your home. These filing cabinets can be used for business or personal use. For easy reference, make sure that the labels are clearly labeled for each folder. This will reduce those familiar piles of papers.
5. Start your day with exercise
Exercise is good for your body, mind and spirit. It’s also a great way to get started in the day. It is a great energy source and can help prevent unwanted weight gain.
6. Take breaks often
You should take breaks from sitting at your computer all day. You can take short walks, do a few chores around the house, or read a book. Another reason to take a break is snack time. To remind yourself of these brakes, you might set a timer.
7. A well-organized desk is more productive
Keep your desk as tidy as possible. My experience is that a messy desk makes me feel less productive. Clean your desk after you have finished working in your home office for the day. Make a list of your next day’s tasks. This will reduce clutter.
8. Prepare Meals ahead of Time
If possible, cook more than one dish at a time when preparing meals. Most main dishes can be frozen to save time. Someone I know takes the time to prepare and freeze meals. This is a great time-saver.
9. Between work at home tasks, household chores
Between your emails and other home-based priorities, do a load or two of laundry. After you turn on your computer, load the dishwasher and continue with the chores. Next, return to your office and begin your day.
10. Each week, set aside a day to spend time with your family.
This is important for both you and your family. This applies to all ages, no matter how small or large your children are. Don’t forget to continue parenting even after your child moves away. Spend quality time with your child.
These tips can help you if organization and time management are difficult for you. While some people are naturally organized, others aren’t. These tips are for those who aren’t.
